Buddy Poppies

Buddy Poppy. Before Memorial Day in 1922, we conducted our first poppy distribution, becoming the first veterans' organization to organize a nationwide distribution. The poppy soon was adopted as the official memorial flower of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, as it remains today.

Coming home doesn't mean the battle is over. With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD, we have people that have shared a similar experience and are ready to help.

WELCOME TO DERRY MEMORIAL

VFW Post 1617
As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our unique group. Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is your service in United States Armed Forces in a foreign war or overseas operation recognized by a campaign medal, in Korea after June 30, 1949, and recipients of hostile fire or imminent danger pay. Veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Kosovo, the Persian Gulf, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Global War on Terrorism, and other smaller peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns, or an army of occupation. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.
 
We are here to work on behalf of our veterans, post members, their families, and our communities. Come Join us! We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, 7:00pm
 
American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the America Legion members have sign-in privileges.
